Portfolios

The portfolio has a fixed spine through which the mechanism is riveted to give added strength and longevity.

The spine width is determined by the number of prints or sleeves you want the portfolio to hold. This will something you will need to consider.

Additional variations include hiding the rivets or having padded covers.

3 Piece Pillar Binding

The 3 piece pillar binding has front and back boards independent from the spine allowing for a variable spine thickness. By varying the length of the brass screws you are able to easily control the number of prints or sleeves you wish to present.

Traditional Binding

The traditional portfolio contains loose pages. The structure comprises of a folder with ribbon ties and flaps which hold the pages in place.

Mechanism Allowance

The use of a mechanism means that about 23mm is 'lost' from the show size. For this reason our sleeves are this much wider than the print they are designed to hold.

We can make a portfolio to fit any print or sleeve but it should be noted that many commercially produced sleeves do not allow enough additional width.

We are happy to use sleeves supplied from elsewhere but please provide a sample one when placing your order.

Drilling and Creasing

At the bindery we have our own templates for hole positions so please bring a template if you are planning to use sleeves, or prints that already have a set hole position.

Creasing facilitates the turning of the pages in a portfolio, helping them to lay flat. We place our creases at between 20-30mm from the spine edge.

Trimming

When we trim prints we do so as a stack so accurate registration is important. If this is an issue, or if your prints are particularly large, we do offer a hand trimming service which we charge for at an hourly rate.
